Terms and Conditions - NTU x Vieunite Art Prize 2022

About the Competition

This is the first year of the NTU x Vieunite Art Prize, an award to celebrate and advance new and digital art. The theme this year is ‘Biophilia’ – the human instinct to connect with living systems and other living beings. Finalists will have their work publicly displayed on the new Textura digital canvas, a specially developed screen specifically designed for displaying static and moving art, and will have their work profiled on the Vieunite online community, a new application for sharing and selling your art. By entering this competition, you will join Vieunite as an artist and have your work licenced.

There is a prize of £1000 and a first generation Vieunite Textura canvas for first place, and £750 for second place, and £500 for third place.

About Us

Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent University is home to the Nottingham School of Art and Design, one of the world’s leading art and design schools. From nurturing talent to daring research and collaborations that are shaking up the industry, we are breaking convention, and challenging the very ideas of what is possible for an art and design school. Inspired by a love for our craft, we are committed to pushing its boundaries into new territories.

Vieunite

Vieunite is an innovative system which combines an advanced digital canvas called Textura with an online community of art collectors. It provides artists with a contemporary and unique online platform to showcase and license their work. The display element of this system will have an integrated therapeutic element paired with an AI-based content engine. This will curate content likely to promote health and wellbeing in the viewer.

How Does Licensing Work?

On Vieunite, ‘Licensing’ is when an Artist allows someone to upload the Artist’s work onto a Textura canvas in exchange for the Artist receiving a fee. So, it’s like selling artwork, except that there is no limit to the number of licences that an Artist can sell.

The Theme

The theme of this year’s competition is ‘Biophilia’. This is the human need for connection with living organisms such as plants, animals, and fungi. Viewing images of nature can significantly improve mood, health, and wellbeing.

When you are making your work, you might want to depict real organisms, or perhaps invent your own. You might consider a broader connection with natural systems like the climate and geology of the planet, or our place within the solar system.

You might find it useful to consider how being in nature makes you feel. For instance, when you feel connected with a living system such as a wilderness, a park, a riverside or hillside, you may feel a sense of: awe, nurture, refuge, mystery, growth, rest, or even risk.

You might choose to portray something nameable, or to capture the colours, rhythms, movement, and dynamism of life in a more abstract way. It is completely up to you, with one condition: your artwork should celebrate a connection with life.

You may submit new work – or use this as an opportunity to submit and share existing work; which may need to be adjusted to meet the Artwork Specifications (see below).
